Other Considerations

Many other factors may also play a role in preventing the loss of minerals from the bone and the development of osteoporosis. Minerals such as copper, silica, boron and manganese may play a role.

There is evidence to indicate that the consumption of oestrogenic compounds in plants may protect against the development of osteoporosis in women. This is a form of plant based hormone replacement therapy. The richest sources of these phyto-oestrogens are foods such as soy and linseed. This form of protection would be most appropriate in women who have gone through menopause or have had their ovaries removed.

Osteoporosis can be prevented by ensuring adequate levels of bone forming nutrients and exercise are maintained. And while prevention is ideal, people suffering from osteoporosis can also benefit from these approaches.
